First I just want to apologize in advance because this will be a much longer post than normal. However I promise everything I talk about in here is helpful towards your business. Some of you may already know everything I mention and some of you will not.
Having an online presence is a must!
In the digital age, it is 1000% imperative for your business to have an online presence. Whether it’s a website, an e-commerce platform of some sort, a social media page or even better a combination of all three. Getting your company online will increase your following and sales. Even if your company does not conduct business online, customers and potential customers are expecting to see you online. If they don’t see you there, you could be losing out on several opportunities to build relationships and increase sales.
I am a blogger and an affiliate marketer. For those who don’t know what an affiliate marketer is well… I sell people’s and or company’s products to the world for a commission. I have a business following in certain industries and I sell products to that following. I’ve built my following over the years through social media, blog posts, and email. Pay attention to these next several paragraphs because this is where I tell you the secret.
If you’re running a business whether it is online based (ie e-commerce store) or just a brick and mortar (ie store front), email is the most effective way to universally reach people who have expressed interest in your product or site.
Here is some hard data for you. More than 34% of the people worldwide use email. That’s about 2.6 billion people. It’s predicted to increase to 2.8 billion email users sometime in 2020. Furthermore the world sends about 196 billion emails daily. Out of this 196 billion emails the majority, 109 billion, is business email.
Email marketing is a powerful way to connect with people. Bringing it home, think about your own experiences. Do you even know anyone who doesn’t have an email address? You probably receive quite a few emails each week (I sure do). You read them, get inspired by them and even look forward to the next one. Email is a big part of our lives. A very big part. Emails are a way to reach your target audience and connect with them on a personal level.
Now a days you can customize your emails to tailor each reader, customer, or potential customer. You can email them about your next blog, sales, giveaways, events, and much more. Emails can also be tailored to specific actions. For example if I sent you an email on a sale and you purchased then your next email wouldn’t be of the same sale. It might be a thank you email or an informative email etc. With 2.6 billion users, email isn’t going anywhere!
I can go on and on with how powerful email is but I will shorten it to my top 3 reasons why you need to use email.
1.) Economic & Cost Effective – Email is easy, effective, and inexpensive. It allows business owners to reach a large number of consumers at a rate of nearly nothing per message. Imagine reaching thousands upon thousands with just 1 email?
For small-business owners on a budget, this makes it a better choice than traditional marketing channels like TV, radio, or direct mail. Just think about it, radio mentions are definitely not cheap and they are only good for that day, week or event promotion. Direct mail has a production cost for the print. Then an additional cost for snail mail. As far as TV goes how many people DVR and fast forward past commercials? Or how many pay for an ad free streaming service?
For 10 years straight now email has proven to be the highest ROI (Return on Investment) for business owners and marketers. On average for every $1 spent, email marketing has generated around $40 in return.
Compared to traditional marketing efforts where printing, postage etc. can take up a ton of cost for your direct mail campaigns. With emails, you are still able to create the same imagery with the added benefits of having follow-up information instantly available with one click to your website, retargeting, and other great features.
With building an email list, the cost benefits increase as does the ROI through the closer relationship established with the recipients. Together with the higher response rates that email marketing attracts, you, therefore, get more positive responses, more quickly and at a lower unit cost! Sounds like a win-win to me?
2.) More Effective Than Social Media – Yes I just said that lol. I know I know I’m the guy who is always on social media and promoting how to make money using social media. Don’t get me wrong, social media is an extremely important component in any business’ marketing strategy. I use social media daily. It’s a great channel for interacting with your audience and strengthening your personal relationships with them. it is an important first step towards reaching your ultimate goal – the conversion.
So I will give you an example of how I use social media and email together. I will run facebook ads to my targeted audience. My ad is usually a free giveaway or an informative report/checklist of some sort. My targeted audience gives me their email address so that I can send them their free gift. That is how the relationship starts and trust is beginning to form.
Although I use social media to start a relationship email is still the way to go. Once I have my email list I own that list and I can communicate with my following / customers. Now a days when you try to do that through social media companies like Facebook want to charge you money to boost posts. Why should you have to pay facebook to show your post to your own following that you worked so hard to get?
3.) Personal & Customizable – When using email, what you’re really doing is segmenting your audience into lists, and sending each list a tailored email message that resonates with your reader and can provide them with something of value. When you make a post on social media you are broadcasting to everyone as a whole. Using email you are able to segment and be personable using first names etc.
Whether you realise it or not, everybody is trained to do something with an email -reply, forward, click-through, sign-up, or even straight buying.
Think about this!
Email is transactional by nature and you can use it to direct traffic to your website and ultimately drive sales. As you develop your small business or startup marketing strategy as a whole, using email will allow you to see results straight away. This means not just sending out newsletters, but also using email automation based on triggers of your customers.
BONUS REASON – Everyone is mobile and they check their emails through their phones. Meaning they will always be notified 🙂
There are a couple different inexpensive ways to really set yourself and your business up for email marketing. You can look for a traditional email automation platform or you can look for a more simple way like using Gmass which is owned by Google. Either way you definitely want to consider all of these tips to increase your business presence and sales.
